On December 7, 2024, Intersex Rights Initiative Coast Kenya successfully conducted an impactful community engagement event as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The event took place at the Chiefโs Camp and brought together a diverse group of participants, including:
- โก.Local community members of all age groups, including elders.
- โก.The area Chief.
- โก.Pregnant mothers.
- โก.Local leaders and religious leaders.
- โก.Youth representatives.
- โก.Counsellors.
- โก.Health service providers.
The goal of the event was to raise awareness on ending gender-based violence while fostering a zero-stigma and zero-discrimination society for intersex persons and all individuals.
USING ART TO ADVOCATE FOR NO VIOLENCE.
To enhance the impact of our awareness efforts, we integrated art and creative expression into the event. Youths performed poetry and drama to highlight the urgent need to eliminate violence, stigma, and discrimination. These artistic performances created a powerful platform for dialogue, reflection, and action within the community.
