OVERVIEW
The USHINDI RETREAT, organized by ILICK, was a transformative event dedicated to the Muslim queer community in the Coast Region. This gathering provided a safe, supportive environment for participants to explore their spirituality, connect with one another, and draw closer to Allah without judgment or fear of discrimination.
In a world where religious beliefs are sometimes used to marginalize LGBTQIA+ individuals, USHINDI RETREAT focused on reclaiming faith as a source of empowerment and inner peace. This event was a profound reminder that spirituality and identity can coexist harmoniously.
Retreat Highlights
♧.Reflections on Faith;
Participants engaged in deep, meaningful reflections on their personal relationships with faith, spirituality, and community. Through guided sessions, they had the chance to discuss how religion impacts their lives as queer Muslims and to reflect on how to create a balance between their faith and identity.
♧.Meditation and Spiritual Reconnection;
Attendees were led through meditation sessions designed to encourage inner peace and reconnect with their spirituality. These quiet moments offered everyone a chance to recharge, reflect, and build a deeper relationship with themselves and their beliefs
♧.Jumaa Prayers;
One of the most impactful moments of the retreat was the collective Jumaa prayers held on Friday. Praying together fostered a sense of unity and reminded participants of the power of shared worship. This experience emphasized the value of inclusive spaces where everyone can engage with their faith authentically.
Participant Experiences
Feedback from participants highlighted the impact of the retreat on their spiritual and personal journeys. Many shared that this was the first time they felt safe expressing both their faith and identity in a community setting.
